20260210 The Economic Crime Forum: Making Online Platforms Liable for Online Crime
Online Platforms is a generic term. We use it to mean Online Shopping, Online Marketplaces, "Social media", Messaging services including MS/FB etc. Messenger, Telegram and WhatsApp, "connection" sites including but far from limited to dating sites and, of course, chatrooms of one sort or another.
These platforms are highly profitable but their legality and commitment to social mores is conspicuous by its absence.
The failure by such companies is leading governments and supranational bodies like the EU to consider its own surveillance. They say it's to act against "scams" and terrorism. But the end result is that everyone's freedom is rapidly coming under threat because the platforms themselves do not take action.
The Forum will examine the nature of the problem and propose solutions.
Welcome to The Economic Crime Forum
We've been presenting global Fora live and online since 1999. Our format changed in 2024. Three Speakers, Two Hours, One Forum. Sometimes we choose a single jurisdiction and others we choose a single topic.
We continue with our policy of mixing officials, academics and practitioners to create an absorbing and enlightening couple of hours.
Our speakers make their presentations and after the final presentation, the questions that have been submitted through the platform during the event will be put to the speakers in a discussion session, providing a world-wide Forum.
Of course, anyone is welcome, both in the chosen jurisdiction and elsewhere, as topics are chosen to be relevant to those who deal with banks, businesses and, of course, regulators and government there.
We look forward to welcoming you to this and many future Fora.

Attending The Financial Crime Forum lets you earn Portable CPD* credits which, where recognised, may be used for your CPD for professional or certification bodies.
Note: even when Portable CPD* is not formally recognised, it may be accepted under the general "reading" or "attending lectures" classes that many professional bodies provide.
For example, see ACAMS: https://www.acams.org/sites/default/files/2022-05/Non-ACAMS%20Credits.%…;
We will provide the required certificate of attendance where pre-booked. FYI, our recording platform records when people arrive and depart for audit purposes and it is that data which is used in your certificate. This event provides two hours' credits.
